Don't Fall For It: Identity Theft Awareness

The course teaches attendees about various kinds of identity theft, ways to protect against identity theft and the impact identity theft can have on its victims. The course also discusses action steps and resources for identity theft victims.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to:

  • Understand the history and general awareness of identity theft
  • Define what identity theft is and the importance of guarding against it
  • Know strategies to guard against identity theft
  • Develop a recovery plan

Prevention Tips

  • Email Spam and Phishing: Cybercriminals have become savvy in their attempts to lure people in and get you to click on a link or open an attachment.
  • Online Shopping: There are really simple ways to stay safe while shopping online.
  • Scams: Learn about some of the most common scams and crimes that UT Police encounters, as well as tips to help prevent you from being victimized.

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas: Provides identity protection services to employees, retirees and their families who are covered under the UT SELECT Medical Plan.
