Job Description: Police Cadet


The University of Texas Police at Houston (UT Police) is staffed with a dedicated team of sworn and civilian professionals that serve, protect and preserve the “daily campus life” at the number-one cancer center in the nation, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and the prestigious University of Texas Health Sciences Center (UTHealth). Both institutions are part of the world’s largest medical complex, The Texas Medical Center located in the heart of the nation’s energy capital, Houston, TX. UT Police is responsible for law enforcement, security and personal safety services. Accredited since 1994, it has most recently received meritorious accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA®).

This position is ideal for entry-level applicants who have no police experience and would like to break into the Law Enforcement field. The salary starts at $38,500 commensurate with experience. Upon completion of the academy, the cadet will take the TCOLE licensing exam. If the cadet passes, they will be promoted to the police officer position which starts at $52,000.

Education 

Required: High School Diploma or GED
Preferred: Undergraduate degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

License/Certification 

Required: Valid Texas Class A, B, or C driver's license. Applicant must also be a U.S. citizen.

Experience

Required: None.

Pay and Compensation

The salary range for this position is $38,500, and starting pay is on a sliding scale commensurate with experience. Upon completion of the academy, the cadet will be promoted to police officer which starts out at $52,000. We also offer a TRS Pension Program, annual merit raises, shift differential pay, bilingual pay (up to $1,800 a year), education pay (up to $6,000 a year), TCOLE certification pay (up to $4,200 a year) and a tuition reimbursement through a Cohort (up to $5,250 a year). We offer excellent benefits, to include 100% of health insurance premiums paid for the employee, paid time off, paid holidays and the opportunity to earn up to 24 additional hours of time off based on performance.
